Funny Minecraft Skins: 18 Free Originals, Grouped by Joke

The funniest Minecraft skins are the ones a lobby gets in half a second: you are a hot dog, you have wandered in wearing a cow onesie, or your eyes are pointing at your own nose. This pack has 18 of them, all drawn from scratch by us, all free 64×64 PNG downloads with no account and no watermark. Pick a joke type below, grab the file and you can be wearing it in about two minutes.

Who it's for: anyone who wants a laugh on a friend's server, a party-game night or a forfeit skin for whoever loses the next round. Who should skip it: if you want a famous cartoon or meme character, you won't find one here. Those skins belong to someone else, so every joke in this locker is our own idea.

The funny pack

18 skins

18 joke originals: food costumes, derp faces, wrong-mob disguises, an office knight and two pranks. Free 64×64 PNGs, yours to edit.

The funny pack: 18 originals, five kinds of joke

Big galleries of funny skins are mostly user uploads, so the same handful of ideas repeats and nobody can tell you who drew them or whether you may edit them. We went the other way: fewer skins, every one original, sorted by how the joke works. That matters more than it sounds, because the type of gag decides where you can wear it and how long it stays funny.

There are five families. Food costumes turn your whole body into a snack. Derp faces keep a normal outfit and put all the comedy in an 8×8 face. Wrong-mob disguises are people in animal onesies. The office knight is a one-skin category of its own. The pranks are about hiding in plain sight. Here is what each skin looks like from the front and from behind, one per joke type.

Front and back renders of six funny skins: Banana Buddy, Cross-Eyed Carl, Moo Suit, Middle Manager Knight, Totally a Bush and Paper Bag Disguise.

Food costumes

Food is the most reliable funny skin because the outline does the work before anyone sees a face. Six of the 18 are snacks. Banana Buddy is a full yellow suit with a brown stem on top. Mr. Toast has crust edges and a pat of butter. Sir Potato is a lumpy brown spud. The new arrivals are Hot Dog Hero, a bun suit with a sausage stripe and a mustard squiggle down the front; The Big Cheese, a wedge of holey yellow with a smug half-lidded stare; and Melon Head, pink flesh dotted with seeds and a green rind ring around the top of the head.

These six are painted edge to edge, arms and legs included, so they read as a costume from any side. That also makes them the best pick for group bits. A whole squad dressed as a picnic is funnier than any single skin, and because every file is free, nobody has to pay to join in.

Derp faces

A derp face works in a much smaller space: one 8×8 square on the front of the head. That is 64 pixels for the whole expression, so the gag has to be one exaggerated feature. Derp has mismatched eyes and a wide grin. Cross-Eyed Carl has both pupils parked against his nose and his tongue out. Buck Tooth Bob has two oversized front teeth under a hopeful smile. Googly Gus wears a pair of googly eyes stuck slightly askew. They are painted on the outer hat layer, so they sit a pixel proud of the face.

Two character gags sit next to them: Clown Chomp, with a red nose and a blue polka-dot suit, and Blocky Stache, the gentleman with the gold monocle. Face jokes are the easiest to remix. Copy the head front from one of these onto your own skin and you keep your outfit while borrowing the joke.

Wrong-mob disguises

These are the skins for anyone who has ever wanted to blend in with the farm animals and failed. Moo Suit is a grown-up in a black-and-white cow onesie, with little horns on the hood, a pink nose patch and bare hands sticking out of the sleeves. Chicken Suit is a fluffy feathered onesie with a red comb and an orange beak on the hood, plus bright orange legs. Pig Snout Pete commits less: an ordinary person with a clip-on pink snout, pink ears and a muddy pink tee.

The joke is that nobody is fooled. The face inside the hood stays a plain human face, so the costume reads as a costume. We drew it that way on purpose. Copying Mojang's own mob textures would make the skin less funny and less ours, so these are animal costumes rather than reskinned mobs.

The office knight

Middle Manager Knight gets its own heading because it is the most specific joke in the pack. From the neck down it's a normal office worker: white shirt, red tie, grey slacks and black shoes. On top sits a full closed steel great helm with an eye slit. It is the skin for turning up to a medieval build in business casual, or for the friend who treats every raid like a quarterly review. The helm is painted on the hat layer, so you can delete it in any pixel editor and keep a plain office outfit underneath.

Prank and camouflage skins

Pranks are about not being noticed until it is too late. Totally a Bush is head-to-toe leaf camouflage in four greens, with two eyes peeking out and brown boots. Crouch beside real foliage in a hide-and-seek round and it does what it says. Paper Bag Disguise pulls a grocery bag over a striped tee, with two eye holes and a doodled smile, for when you don't want to be recognised. Both are easy to adapt. Recolour the bush for autumn leaves or snow, or draw a different face on the bag.

One limit is worth knowing before you try to go fully invisible. On Java Edition the base layer of a skin is always drawn fully opaque, so you cannot make a see-through body. Only the outer layer can be transparent. Camouflage that matches its surroundings is the trick that works, not a blank skin.

Best moments to wear one

Funny skins earn their keep in social play. They suit hide-and-seek, minigame servers, a friend's survival world on build night, video recordings and "loser wears the potato" forfeits. They are less fun as an everyday skin. A joke you see on your own arms for a week stops being funny to you long before it stops being funny to everyone else.

Check the server before a PvP match. Some servers replace player skins or show a default to players on another edition, so the costume may not land for everyone. On your own world or a friend's realm the skin shows as normal, and that's where these are at their best.

If you want something your whole group can wear together, the matching Minecraft skins post has sets that are designed to be worn as pairs. If a friend would rather look sharp than silly, send them to the cool Minecraft skins locker instead.

Free originals or a Marketplace pack?

Every skin above is free, but they are flat 64×64 skins. They change the paint on the standard player model, not its shape. Bedrock's Marketplace sells professionally made skin packs, and some use custom geometry that a flat PNG can't match, such as a hat that sticks out or a costume with real volume. Those cost Minecoins, and prices change, so we don't quote them here. On a console you can't import a PNG at all, so a paid pack is often the only way to get a ready-made funny look.

If that is your situation, you can browse the funny and costume packs in the official Minecraft Marketplace. It's an affiliate link, so SkinStash may get a small cut if you buy; your price doesn't change. On PC or phone, start with the free files. You can always buy later.

Draw your own funny skin

Start by writing the joke as a single sentence: "I am a slice of cheese" or "my eyes are looking at my nose". If it takes two sentences, it is too complicated for 64 pixels of face. Then decide where the joke lives. A whole-body costume means painting every face of the body, arms and legs, including the backs and sides. A face gag needs only the 8×8 head front. A hat-layer gag, like googly eyes or a paper bag, goes on the outer layer so it can be removed in one step.

Keep the rest of the skin plain so it doesn't compete with the gag. The banana has no pattern on the body for a reason. Exaggerate the one feature until it feels slightly too big in the editor, because it will look normal-sized in the game. Our guide to designing your own Minecraft skin covers the template, layers and shading if you're starting from zero.

To wear any of these on Java, upload the PNG in the Minecraft Launcher's Skins tab or on your minecraft.net profile. On Bedrock for Windows or mobile, import it from the Dressing Room's Classic Skins tab. The step-by-step install guide walks through both.

Funny Minecraft skins: FAQ

What is the funniest Minecraft skin?

It depends on the crowd, but whole-body food costumes get the fastest laugh because you read them from across a lobby. In this pack that's Banana Buddy, Hot Dog Hero or Sir Potato. For a close-up screenshot, a derp face such as Cross-Eyed Carl lands better.

Where can I get funny Minecraft skins for free?

Right here: all 18 skins in the funny pack are free 64×64 PNG downloads with no account or watermark. We drew every one ourselves, so you're also free to edit them.

How do I make a funny Minecraft skin?

Pick one joke and decide where it lives: the whole body, the 8×8 face, or the outer hat layer. Keep everything else plain and exaggerate the gag, since details shrink at in-game size.

Are funny skins allowed on servers?

Usually, yes. A funny skin is just a texture. Individual servers set their own rules, though, and some replace skins entirely, so check a server's rules if you're unsure.

Do these skins work on Bedrock and Java?

Yes. The same PNG works in both. Upload it through the Java launcher or your minecraft.net profile, or import it from the Dressing Room on Bedrock for Windows or mobile. Consoles can't import custom files.
